MidAmerican Energy Co. announces Stay Cool Twitter contest

With record-setting temperatures in the forecast again this week, MidAmerican Energy Co. is utilizing social media to send information customers can use to stay cool. On July 17, MidAmerican Energy will launch its Stay Cool Twitter contest to remind people how to reduce their energy usage yet still stay comfortable during hot weather.

Energy saving tips will be sent from MidAmerican Energy’s Twitter account July 17-20 at noon. When recipients retweet the message to their followers and include @MidAm_EnergyCo in their post, they will be eligible for a daily drawing. All retweets must be sent prior to 4:30 p.m. CDT each day to qualify. A daily winner will be selected at random, and the winner will be announced on MidAmerican Energy’s Twitter page at 5 p.m. CDT. Prizes include tickets to the 2012 Iowa State Fair, tickets to an Iowa Cubs game, and MidAmerican Energy merchandise. Participants will be allowed one contest entry per day.

MidAmerican Energy reminds its customers and social media followers of three easy ways to save energy during this week’s heat wave:

  • Set it smart: Keep the thermostat set at 78 degrees or higher.
  • Block the sun: Close drapes, blinds or shades to help cool your home.
  • Wait it out: Schedule any heat-generating activities for early morning or late evening hours.
